Guide you home

I am a lighthouse

I’ll guide you home

In your darkest days

With the roughest seas

Even with gray clouds

When you’re feeling lost

And you need a light

I’ll be there

I’ll be your lighthouse

In life you play a role. Sometimes you’re the star of the team, or you shine in athletics, music, or studies. You can be the most popular person who has a whole brigade of friends. Or you can be the lighthouse. The back bone, the pillar that stands faithfully, that’s always there. All that to say that you can be the glue of friendships and life experiences. In the words of Grey’s Anatomy you are someone’s person. You are the person people go to when times get rough. You are the person who guides others into different areas of their lives. Whenever there is a time that needs a guiding friend you’re the one that’s called. Being a lighthouse is safety, it’s home. You give comfort to someone and that is one of the greatest feelings in the world. In a world that is filled with stress, filled with hurt and confusion having some type of comfort makes the world not look so scary. All anyone wants is in life is comfort, solace, someone to turn to when they feel lost. And when you’re lost, a light guides you. Light would also represent a new beginning, a cleansing of the chaos that one feels. The worry of will a ship reach the shore tends to come to an immediate halt upon the first glance of that light shining towards them. They know that they have made it, and the strife from the long voyage is nearly over. I chose to write this because I was listening to Death Cab for Cuties “I will follow you into the Dark” and it made me think of that connection that you have with someone. It’s the emotion of wanting to be with someone or wanting to have such a strong connection with someone that you would follow them anywhere. It’s crazy that a song about death could inspire such a feeling of wanting to guide someone. It was the lyric “But I'll be close behind and I'll follow you into the dark”. Granted a lighthouse is generally in a distance and far off saying that you’ll follow close behind to a person is the same emotion invoked of wanting to guide them. You’re following them to be a helping hand. To be a lighthouse means that you are dependable, you are a caregiver. You want nothing more than to help. I relate to that emotion because I have a passion for helping others. Seeing them succeed or seeing that they’re no longer in that dark area of their life because I was able to help them even just a little brings nothing but happiness to me. Everyone needs a lighthouse, everyone needs a helping hand to guide them. You have a role in life and mine happens to be a lighthouse.
